Data and Scoring
AreaHub's one-stop nationwide database of environmental and natural hazards is backed by rigorous data science and digital technology. We work with top academics and data scientists to better understand environmental hazards and produce our reports. We also rely on robust and widely accepted approaches to data review and analysis.
Our Approach to Data
To produce our reports, AreaHub uses a sophisticated and proprietary algorithm that incorporates data from a variety of accepted third-party sources. In addition, our technology includes patented and proprietary features. Our report conclusions depend on the following:
Location-specific data availability - Some areas have more detailed information accessible to AreaHub than others.
Data accuracy and reliability - The better and more accurate data that is available and accessible to AreaHub and accessible to AreaHub, the more reliable and robust are the conclusions in our reports.
The AreaHub team is constantly working to improve our data, data sources, approaches and reports. As new data and model improvements become available, our reports may change over time.
How We Score and Rank Risks
Using publicly available datasets provided by credible sources, we run our proprietary geospatial algorithms that:
Rank data into percentile clusters at the zip code, census tract, and/or county level, accounting for category-specific parameters.
Use geospatial point-to-point or linestring-to-point distances, assigning weighted score based on respective ranges.
Assign and weight ranges based on scholastically backed research to determine hazard levels.
